Moses had said the same thing that Joshua is saying, separated by many years, and every generation has to hear it, over and over and over again, and that’s why the Gospel never grows old. Therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live”. He said, “I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I’ve set before you life and death, blessing and cursing. Moses had warned Israel, much earlier, a generation earlier, when he was dying. And Joshua was warning the people to choose God, to follow him, instead of these other Gods. You either have to decide that you’re going to serve the Gods of materialism all around us, or, the true and the living God. And that’s a decision that every single person here tonight has to make. Joshua said if every one of you serves other idols and other Gods, makes no difference: as for me and my house, we’ve already made a decision: we are going to serve the Lord. He warns them that the judgments of God will fall upon them unless they live for the Lord.Īnd here’s what he says, “And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom you will serve”! If you want to serve the devil, serve him! But make a choice! “Whether the Gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the Gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell”… But then he says, “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord”. And during this address, he warns the people about their idolatry. ![]() And the 15th verse: now he had called all the leaders of Israel together at a place called Shechem, and he’s getting ready to die and this is his farewell address. We also need to be making choices such as rejecting negative thoughts, ideas, and beliefs. The Bible is full of successful people who understood the “power of making choices.” There are two primary choices in life: to follow Jesus Christ and obtain eternal life through His grace, or follow the ways of the world and enter eternal damnation. Making choices can enable us to do greater things than we could possibly imagine. We have the power of making choices, which is a catalyst for change. What distinguishes humans from animals is the free will that the Almighty Creator has given us.
